Medieval castles
We will take you to discover the surrounding medieval castles and their history, in a visit to the evidence of the Middle Ages in northern Sardinia, starting from the tower of the Casteldoria castle perched on the wonderful “Monte Ruiu“.
We will then go to Chiaramonti whose castle is part of the fortification system that the ruling Doria family of Genoa had built for the protection of the Anglona region.
We will visit Castelsardo whose original nucleus was built around the Doria castle. So in the Middle Ages they assigned it the name of Castelgenovese but with the dominion of the Aragonese the name changed to Castel Aragonese and assumed its current name only with the Kingdom of Savoy. Even today the manor has the noble aspect of a stately fortification with high ramparts and steep stairs.
Today Castelsardo with its medieval stronghold is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
During “Medieval castles” excursions we will stay overnight in B&Bs and/or farmhouses where we will be able to taste typical local products, as well as at the refreshment points that we will find along the way.
